Hong Zheng’s story begins with a decision many people only ever consider. At 19, he left China and moved to the United States, arriving in 1992 and stepping into a completely new environment with no guarantees of what would come next.

Joanne Li’s journey to becoming Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha didn’t begin anywhere near Nebraska. It started in Hong Kong, where she grew up before moving to the United States for college, becoming the first in her family to do so. That transition shaped much of what came next.

More than 511 family members filled Buena Vista High School to celebrate their loved ones. The room was packed. Families filled the seats, lined the standing areas, and stayed present for every name, every certificate, every proud walk across the stage.

The night was full, beautiful, and deeply moving.

It also came with a major last-minute change.

As organizations navigate increasing pressure, public scrutiny, and fast-moving decision-making, ethical leadership remains one of the most valuable qualities a leader can possess.

That conversation will take center stage on Thursday, May 7, 2026, when Business Ethics Alliance hosts its annual Spring Executive Ethics Breakfast at WoodmenLife, located at 1700 Farnam St. in downtown Omaha. The event runs from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will bring together business and community leaders for a morning focused on integrity, decision-making, and values-based leadership.

In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month this May, Lozafina is launching a special feature series dedicated to celebrating the trailblazers, mentors, innovators, and everyday heroes whose stories have helped shape Omaha and communities far beyond it.
