Cartoonifying EPIC Honorees: A Fun Spin
Today, we're taking you behind the scenes of one of our most fun projects to date: Cartooning the wonderful honorees of EPIC for Girls! From high school courts to the looming stages of the WNBA, these women have made a mark, and what better way to honor them than by adding a touch of whimsy to their accomplishments?
The Task at Hand
Our mission? To capture the essence, energy, and elegance of these three remarkable women in cartoon form:
Lincoln High Girls Basketball Coach - Dominique Johnson: Coach of the Year
Nia Jones of Omaha Central: High School Athlete of the Year
Dariauna "Stretch" Lewis from Syracuse University: Upcoming WNBA Star and College Athlete of the Year
The Creative Process
1. Research, Research, Research: Our team deep-dived into their personal and professional stories. We wanted to ensure that our cartoons reflected not just their appearance, but their spirit, passion, and accomplishments.
2. Rough Sketches: Using pencils and digital tools, our illustrators drew preliminary sketches, capturing their signature moves, expressions, and styles. Coach Johnson with her strategic playbook, Nia's dribbling magic, and Dariauna's impressive reach on the court.
3. Colors and More: We selected a vibrant palette that represented each athlete's personality. Dominique's leadership qualities, Nia's spirited energy, and Dariauna's powerful presence were reflected.
The Joy of Cartoonifying Legends
This project was more than just creating cartoons. It was about celebrating achievements, understanding the power of representation, and connecting with a younger audience in a fun, relatable way. We're incredibly proud of the end result and even more honored to have had the chance to work with EPIC for Girls and these phenomenal women.
