By Xitlally Velasco

Meet this week’s My Five feature, Annika Shaw.

Annika Shaw serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Omaha Presbyterian Seminary Foundation. In this role, she is responsible for managing organizational events, promoting these events to PC(USA) leadership, and supporting current and aspiring church leaders in achieving their goals through scholarships and grants. Additionally, Shaw is the Marketing Strategist for Vesper Concerts, a free and public concert series now entering its 36th season. In this position, she coordinates all social media platforms, sends out weekly email newsletters, manages the organization’s website, and photographs all events.

1. Camera.

I couldn’t live without my Nikon camera. It’s helped me develop my professional photography skills over the years and helps me see the magic in everyday life. When I photograph people, I love capturing the joy on a person’s face. When I photograph landscapes, I try to capture the beauty of a single moment, whether it be a sunset or by a lake.

2. Sunglasses.

Sunglasses are a regular staple for me. Whether I’m driving or running errands, my Aviators are a must!

3. Nalgene.

I’ll shamelessly admit that I am one of those people who has an emotional support water bottle. My Nalgene goes with me everywhere I go, and I’ve had it for over six years. It’s also covered with stickers from around the world, so it also serves as a portable souvenir and reminds me of the places I have been fortunate enough to travel to.

4. Cello.

Since I’ve been playing cello since I was ten, a majority of my life has been shaped by music. I’ve experienced so many amazing moments while playing. My musical ability has taken me to lots of places, from all-state ensembles to weddings, and it's helped me connect with myself and those around me. Music has this amazing ability to bring out the best in people, and I hope I do just that through my playing. I truly couldn’t live without it.

5. Backpack.

My trusty backpack has endured a lot, including a few years of college and my move to Omaha. It holds all the essentials I need throughout the day, including my laptop, Nalgene, headphones, sunglasses, you name it! It helps me feel prepared every day, even if I don’t know what the day holds.
