Cherished Essentials: Drew Guzman’s Five Elements of Happiness

MY FIVE: A series where we ask Omahans to share their five favorite things

By: Xitlally Velasco

Meet 22-year-old Drew Guzman, this week’s My Five feature!

“Exploring new skincare routines can be both exhilarating and challenging, with an intriguing mix of advantages and disadvantages. The diverse range of prices in skincare products adds an extra layer of excitement to the journey. As I've grown older, my taste buds have evolved, and I've transitioned away from sugary treats. Now, matcha remains a favorite in my palette. My older sister's unwavering passion for fashion has left a lasting impression on me, teaching me that clothing transcends gender boundaries and encouraging me to embrace experimentation without hesitation. My fondness for YouTube DIY clothing tutorials has nurtured my bold sense of style, helping me confidently stand out. Additionally, my exploration of various music genres within the hyper-pop realm has provided me with a comforting and expressive musical sanctuary, allowing me to truly be myself.”

Keep reading to learn about Drew’s top five obsessions…

1. Skincare Products.

“Over time, I started gaining more confidence in my skin.”

- Drew Guzman

It took years to perfect my skincare routine. The flawless skin of K-pop idols inspired me to begin my own journey to perfect my skin. For years, I struggled with acne and relied on drugstore products with very little knowledge. I’m always tweaking my routine and reviewing how the products work on me. Over time, I started gaining more confidence in my skin.

2. Matcha.

“My favorite orders are the matcha smoothie from Scooters and the Jasmine milk green tea boba from Tsaocaa.”

- Drew Guzman

I drink matcha primarily for its health benefits, such as liver protection, heart health, and even aid in weight loss. Drinking a cup of matcha daily can do wonders for your health, even for your skin. My favorite orders are the matcha smoothie from Scooters and the Jasmine milk green tea boba from Tsaocaa. I also recently purchased matcha packets from the Asian Market, which is an affordable alternative that I can make at home.

3. Pinterest.

Pinterest is my go-to for artwork and drawing inspirations, fashion, hair, nail art, and basically everything. I keep my ideas organized by saving my pins to my boards; I lost count of how many boards I have, each pertaining to a specific idea and aesthetic. They’re my virtual bulletin/mood boards.

4. Fashion (Depop).

On Depop, you can sell and find trendy, affordable clothes. It’s a fun way to get rid of all your clothes, make easy money, and discover trendy items. I’ve sold a few of my own closet items, as well. I’ve been using Depop for almost a year now, and I’m always finding unique designer pieces.

5. Grimes.

I started listening to Grimes 2 years ago, and I find that she has a unique way of delivering her music. She experiments with a lot of sounds and even artificial intelligence. I think she’s one of the only artists that’s taking advantage of AI. She’s had a big impact on the electro-pop and hyper-pop landscape. She’s a great reference of inspiration for other artists, not just for her instrumental expertise but for her visual creativity as well.
