EPIC for Girls Coordinates Community-Wide Celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports
Story by Promise Lloyd
EPIC for Girls is proud to announce its National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration with a week-long series of events from Jan. 31 to Feb. 8, featuring a strong lineup of collegiate and professional sports teams. The “2025 Lead HER Forward Sports Week” celebration will focus on uplifting girls and women in sports, promoting participation, and fostering empowerment and inclusivity.
The 2025 Lead HER Forward Sports Week seeks to spotlight the accomplishments of female athletes while addressing gaps in sports access and participation. The initiative is grounded in EPIC for Girls’ mission to address inequities in sports for girls of color by advocating for and funding local nonprofit sports partners.
“This event is a testament to the power of sports to inspire, unite, and uplift communities,” says Kimberly Thomas, EPIC for Girls executive director. “Girls of color have been significantly impacted by the pay-to-play environment and represent the least represented cohort in sports. Our aim is to foster an environment where every girl has the opportunity to thrive, connect with role models, and feel empowered to lead in sports and beyond.”
