Story by Xitlally Velasco

On Monday, April 14, Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc.’s Omicron Chapter proudly hosted its annual Latina Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC)— a day-long event that welcomed more than 150 young Latinas from middle schools across Omaha.

Held with the mission of uplifting and empowering the next generation of Latina leaders, the conference provided a safe, inspiring space where girls could participate in college readiness workshops, hear from Latina professionals, and engage in open conversations around the academic and social barriers often faced by young Latinas.

“As an organization, we hold a deep responsibility to support Latina youth in their educational journey,” said Josefina Loza, CEO of Lozafina and a Lambda Theta Nu alumnus who was invited to speak at the Omicron Chapter's conference. “The LYLC is a direct reflection of our commitment to increasing graduation rates and building leadership from a young age.”

With a strong focus on academic achievement, personal development, and cultural pride, the LYLC gave students a chance to explore future opportunities, ask meaningful questions, and walk away with tangible tools to navigate their path toward higher education.

Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. continues to lead by example, serving as role models and advocates for educational equity. During the 2022–2023 academic year alone, LYLCs hosted by various chapters reached more than 10,100 students nationwide.

The Omicron Chapter’s successful event is a testament to the impact that culturally grounded mentorship and community engagement can have on shaping confident, college-bound Latinas ready to take on the world.
