Nottingham Marketing Student Hamza Noor Reveals His Top Items That Keep Him Grounded

MY FIVE: A series where we ask individuals to share their five favorite things

By Xitlally Velasco

Hamza Noor, 21, is currently pursuing a degree in Business Management and Marketing at Nottingham Trent University in England. With a strong passion for marketing, Noor enjoys exploring innovative campaigns and aspires to contribute to groundbreaking projects in the future. He has experience creating and editing social media content, including photography and reel videography. In addition, Noor is expanding his skills in web development, having already built one website and actively working on another. Committed to mental and physical well-being, he maintains a regular gym routine and prioritizes self-care.

1. Gym.

Going to the gym is a vital part of my life. I work out four to five times a week and love every second of it. The gym is my sanctuary, where I feel safest—it’s my form of meditation. With my earphones in, all my worries and fears fade away for a few hours. It’s where I can release negative emotions, setting a positive tone for the rest of my day. The gym boosts my confidence, helping me feel more comfortable in my own skin. Despite facing setbacks that have made me more self-conscious, the gym gives me the strength and motivation to keep moving forward.

2. Music.

Ever since I was a child, music has been an integral part of my life. I grew up playing the piano and violin, playing both alone and in local orchestras. In recent years, due to several reasons, I haven’t played as much as I would like. However, I still have a fiery passion for music that will never be extinguished. If you ever meet me, you will probably see me with my earphones listening to music, whether I’m working, commuting, or going to the gym. Music allows my mind to wander and lets me imagine anything and everything.

3. Confidence.

Confidence has always been a challenge for me. In school, I was the kid who would run to the library and bury my head in a book over socializing with classmates. As I grew older, my self-consciousness deepened, but I learned to mask it. At 16, I discovered the gym, which helped me gain a measure of confidence and ease my self-doubt. However, due to some unfortunate setbacks, I realize that I will likely struggle with confidence throughout my life. Still, I’m certain that as long as I hold onto even a small amount of self-belief, I’ll continue to push myself toward improvement.

4. Humor.

I believe that the ability to laugh and make jokes about the negative things around you is extremely important. I try to find the funny side of life as much as possible, keeping a smile on my face and laughing at the challenges I face is how I stay positive.

5. Family.

As cliche as it sounds, without my family, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Knowing I have their support makes me feel safe. They have helped me through the roughest points of my life, quite literally nursing me back to health. It’s extremely comforting to know that they will always be in my corner.
