Setting Summer Goals to Curb Burnout
We’ve hit that summer work stride.
The days are longer. However, tasks keep piling up.
Be careful not to push yourself too hard. Burnout creeps in subtly, over time. And then, Bam! You feel overworked and stressed out over just about everything.
Burnout is characterized by three main dimensions: exhaustion, cynicism, and feelings of reduced professional ability. Therefore, developing a self-care strategy to manage stress is imperative.
Now that we’re in July, it’s the ideal time to look back – and forward – and map out a plan to help us get through the rest of the year. A plan that will help us feel good, reach our goals, and improve our mental health.
Spend some time reflecting on what you want to bring into summer with these three steps.
Write It Down
Write down what’s worked for you over recent weeks that you want to continue doing. Think about what made you feel good, find balance, or helped your stress management journey. No victory is too small. Choose one or two of those items from your list that you want to take with you into summer.
Make A List
Make a list of something new you’d like to try this summer to build up those creative juices. Try asking yourself what you’d like to accomplish by the end of summer. Identify that one thing that can realistically make this different than spring.
Focus on two things
Focus on the two things you’ve singled out. What will need to happen for you to build them into your routine? Consider how you can use your relationships, personal strengths, or even your home space. Pinpoint which next step you can take this week to set the right tone for the season.
