Johanningsmeier is an English professor and Isaacson professor at the University of Nerbaska Omaha. His research focuses on literacy between 1865 and 1970. He has authored two books, published a number of academic articles, and has delivered presentations on Cather at conferences in the U.S. and Europe. He regularly offers a graduate seminar on Cather at UNO.
