Heartland Civic Summit

The Heartland Civic Summit is back with a schedule that is jam-packed with tips and tools for increasing your civic knowledge.

The event begins at 9 AM with a welcome breakfast and short talk from Civic Mobility of the Heartland’s research team about how this summit was formed.

Then, from 10:30 AM to noon choose from three different listening sessions:

Beyond the Ballot: Redefining Civic Power, led by I Be Black Girl’s Policy Manager Taylor Givens-Dunn and Aleyah Smith, policy fellow.

Youth Elect: What to know about the 2025 Municipal Elections led by Michaela Atkins, Youth Elect, and Marissa Vallecillo, Youth Elect.

Messaging Workship with the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table.

During lunch, learn about electoral and grassroots engagement strategies for you. This conversation panel will include Michaela Atkins from Youth Elect, Marissa Vallecillo from Youth Elect, Clarice Dombeck from the Omaha Regional Metro Transit Board, and Brianna Full who sits on the Omaha Public Schools Board.

From 1:30 PM to 3 PM choose from three more listening sessions.

Crafting Your Story: Tips for Public Testimony will be led by Gab Rima from Urban Abbey and Strongly Worded Letters, and Johnny Redd from Strongly Worded Letters.

Turning Youth Civic Engagement Research into Action will be led by the Civic Mobility Research Team.

Civic Chats: Engaging with our Civic and Media Ecosystems will be lead by Courtney Bierman, producer with KIOS and Todd Cooper, General Manager of The Gateway.

From 3 PM to 4:30 PM enjoy the civic interest and connection fair to learn about more opportunities to get involved. Following the fair there will be an open house and networking event with the UNO School of Public Administration.
