With Cinco de Mayo Omaha, presented by Casa de la Cultura, just around the corner, May 9-11 at South Omaha’s iconic Plaza de la Raza on 24th Street, here are some exciting things you won’t want to miss!
1. Community Coming Together.
It’s always a great sight to see when a community comes together, and that’s exactly what you’ll see at the Cinco de Mayo festival. People will travel from near and far to honor, celebrate, experience, and learn at the Cinco de Mayo festival.
2. A Cultural Experience.
At the festival, attendees will learn about Mexican culture, including its impressive history, diverse music, stunning art, mouthwatering food, and more. How exciting!
3. Omaha’s Biggest Parade.
What would Omaha’s Cinco de Mayo be without its biggest and most diverse parade? Starting on the historic South 24th Street, stretching from D to L Street, spectators can admire floats from local businesses, cultural dances, and even horses.
4. Lively Music.
There’s no doubt that music will surround attendees all weekend long with both recorded tracks and live performances, creating a nonstop celebration of vibrant Mexican and Latin sounds.
5. Concerts.
Speaking of music, attendees will be treated to concerts from a variety of groups later in the night. Live on the Veridian Credit Union Main stage and the FNBO 24 stage, attendees can jam out to performances from Banda los Sebastianes, La Fiera de Ojinaga, Norteños de Ojinaga, and other special guests.
6. Traditional Dance Performances.
Along with its lively and culturally rich music, attendees can enjoy performances by local dance groups showcasing folklórico and Indigenous dance.
7. Carnival Rides.
Along with food and entertainment, carnival rides will be available for children 12 and under.

Not a fan of carnival rides? No worries! Children can also enjoy and engage in a variety of games and activities throughout the festival.
9. Eye-Catching Art.
The festival will also feature an array of vibrant and eye-catching artwork. Attendees will see art through fashion, parade floats, buildings, trash bins, murals, and more.
10. Meet Damian Chapa.
Are you a fan of the movie Blood In Blood Out? Don’t miss the chance to meet actor Damian Chapa, where he will be meeting fans and signing autographs.

A day full of celebration and festivities will work up an appetite. The best part is, attendees won’t have to walk far to satisfy their hunger. The festival will feature local businesses serving delicious Mexican and Latin cuisine.

13. Mariachi Mass.
To kick off the final day of the festival, a Mariachi Mass will be held at the Asunción-Guadalupe Catholic Church.
14. Health Fair.
In partnership with various health organizations, the South Omaha Community Care Council (SOCCC) will host a health fair. Attendees will have access to free health screenings as well as resources regarding health education, prevention, and health insurance, along with raffles.
