Celebrate Earth Day at Mulhall's Garden + Home and Support Local Shops
By: Xitlally Velasco
This Saturday, we celebrate Earth Day to honor environmental movements and raise awareness to protect our natural resources for future generations. A fun fact you may not know is that the first Earth Day was held in 1970.
Mulhall’s Nursery Garden Center and Landscaping Services will kick off the gardening season with live music, food, and treats. You can enjoy music from local singer-songwriter Andre Vander Velde, indulge in pizza from Mootz Pizza, refresh with juices and smoothies from Ital Vital Living, and sweeten your palate with farm-to-cone ice cream from Coneflower Creamery.
Apart from satisfying your hunger with sweet and salty treats, you can learn all about native gardening with the Bellevue Native Plant Society. Entertain yourself by stopping by Two Keys Creative Studios’ art station, where you can design your own botanical artwork to take home.
Additionally, Mulhall will present a mini-seminar series to inform others about practical tips for reducing one’s carbon footprint (The United States is the second most polluted country releasing between 4 to 5 billion tons of CO2 every year) and sustainable planting.
City Sprouts will attend to talk about vermicomposting, and you can get an overview on hydroponics from Whispering Roots. Finally, support another local business, Benson Soap Mill, by purchasing soaps crafted from locally sourced products.
This fun-filled event will take place at 3615 N 120th St., Omaha, NE, on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
