“‘Mexican Daughter’ represents the culmination of my intersectionalities," Michelle explained. "It embodies my identity as a woman, a Latina, and a daughter of immigrants. This piece is also an homage to the struggles that arise from these facets of my life; it is a visual representation of the complex emotions accompanying them.
As a second-generation Latina, I’ve often wrestled with the concept of 'otherness,' this painting reflects that internal conflict. Despite the challenges, my culture has instilled in me the values of strength, pride, family, and tradition, of which I am most proud. ‘Mexican Daughter’ is a snapshot of my childhood, capturing a moment of innocence and cultural richness that will remain with me forever. It is both a personal testament and a celebration of the culture that shaped who I am today.”
