By Xitlally Velasco

Michelle is a first-generation Latina graduate, having completed her studies in Graphic Design at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her concentration focused on digitally creating visual concepts to convey ideas that inspire or inform communities.

She is a social media strategist and account executive at EPIC for Girls and communication strategist at Lozafina.

1. Music.

Music is something I could not live without. There is literally something for any mood or need. If I want to cry, dance, or just chill, there is going to be a song for it.

Music also brings people together at concerts, out dancing, or when you send your friends a playlist. Hearing a song and being transported back to that moment is always such a vibe. So many memories are created as a result of music, and I think that’s beautiful.

2. Books.

I love to read, so books are definitely on the list of things I could not live without. At a point in my life when I was going through one of my lowest lows, books provided a great distraction. Now, they offer a welcome escape from life.

There are infinite worlds and stories out there between pages, and I never tire of discovering them. The stories may be made up, but my tears and laughter are very real.

3. Jewelry

One thing about me: I’m gonna be jingle-and-jangling. I think jewelry is such a cute and wholesome form of self-expression. But it can also be more than just accessorizing. There are certain pieces I wear because of what they symbolize to me; I’m sentimental that way. If someone I love gifts me a string bracelet, I’m gonna wear it.

I’m also a really anxious person, and my jewelry has become a comfort for me. When I’m feeling anxious, just fidgeting with my rings helps ground me. It's cute, and I never go out without it.

4. Traveling

Traveling is one of my greatest joys in life because I love to see and experience new things: cities, beaches, mountains, all of it. Being among the tallest trees in the world or in an art museum surrounded by the artwork of geniuses is humbling in the best way possible.

It reminds me that I’m alive and to live in the moment. I also always create some of my best memories with families and friends on my trips. Having a trip planned also always gives me something to look forward to.

5. Skincare.

Something I could probably not live without is my skincare routine. Yes, I am superficial enough to list it, but it's also because I went through a really rough patch where I had horrible breakouts and it made me so insecure.

Now, I look good, so I feel good. Establishing a skincare routine cleared up my skin and I am a lot more confident because of it. It has also become an essential part of my routine; it marks the start and end of my day.
