Omaha Chapter of The Links, Incorporated to Host Black Family Wellness Expo at Zion Baptist Church

In Omaha, a transformative community event is set to inspire and empower families. On March 15, from noon to 2:30 p.m., the Omaha Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will host the Black Family Wellness Expo at Zion Baptist Church. This initiative is designed to bridge the long-standing health disparities that have affected Black families across the nation and is particularly impactful in Nebraska, where nearly 13% of Black adults describe their health as poor or fair.

The expo is more than a day of free health screenings; it is a powerful statement of resilience and commitment to community well-being. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive vital screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, and cancer risk factors. In addition, experts will lead discussions on topics such as mental health, maternal care, and suicide prevention — subjects that are often clouded by stigma. The event also addresses economic challenges by providing information on financial literacy, insurance options, and local support programs, ensuring that families gain not only medical insights but also the tools needed for long-term health.

Tiffany White-Welchen, president of the Omaha Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, says the event represents a dedicated effort to change the status quo.

“This isn’t just about raising awareness — it’s about saving lives,” she said.

In a nod to the critical issue of organ donation, the expo will also offer attendees the chance to register as organ and tissue donors, a move that could have life-changing implications for many in the Black community who often face longer waiting times for transplants.

The legacy of service and advocacy by The Links, Incorporated, began with the Omaha chapter’s charter in 1950 and is evident in every aspect of this event. With a membership of over 17,000 professional women committed to uplifting African American communities nationwide, the organization has long been fueling hope and progress.

By bringing together free medical screenings, educational discussions, and resources for financial and community support, the Black Family Wellness Expo is poised to create lasting change.
