Looking for a fun event to attend after work and kick off the weekend to a great start? This Friday, Whispering Roots, a local nonprofit organization, will present its inaugural Cinco de Mayo Taco Fest fundraiser at its new South Omaha site.
The 21-and-older event will feature all-you-can-eat tacos from local taco trucks Molcaxete, La Gaviota, El Viejon, The Churro Spot and Los Famosos Tacos de Birria, along with a variety of beverages.
Live music will also be presented by Omaha native Alexis Arai, who appeared on The Voice and American Idol and reached the semifinals on Tengo Talento Mucho Talento. She will perform as Alexis Arai y Su Grupo Latino throughout the event.
Additionally, attendees will be able to tour Whispering Roots’ new South Omaha community food and nutrition hub located at the event.
“We’re excited to introduce the first Cinco de Mayo Taco Fest, which we’re expecting to be an annual fundraiser for Whispering Roots. It’s an evening of fun, food and music highlighting some of Omaha’s best taco trucks and amazing local performers,” said Greg Fripp, Founder and CEO of Whispering Roots. “Proceeds will support the furthering of our mission of growing, feeding and educating our neighbors about nutritious food options, especially those living within food deserts, urban cores and rural communities.”
Tickets for this rain-or-shine event are $50 in advance, available at whisperingroots.org, or $65 at the event.
It will be held at 2624 Edward Babe Gomez Avenue from 5-9 p.m.
