A New Era of Art: The Joslyn’s Grand Reopening
After two years of remodeling and construction, the Joslyn Art Museum will officially reopen on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
The Josyln Art Museum, revamped as “The Josyln,” brings the community 5,000 years of human creativity across three buildings, 100 new collection pieces, three exceptional exhibitions and, as always, free admission to all.
The Joslyn will hold the inaugural presentation of over 50 paintings, sculptures, photographs and drawings gifted from the Phillip G. Schrager Collection. These pieces contain significant developments in postwar and contemporary art. Schrager, an Omaha business leader and philanthropist, began collecting art in the 1960s, and his interests ranged from large-scale abstract painting to representations of the body.
The ‘Ed Ruscha: Paper’ exhibition introduces the museum’s first dedicated gallery for works on paper featuring gifted drawings, prints and photographs from the artist.
The Eva LeWitt showcase features the artist’s sculptures and installations, which will transform the museum’s ceiling, corners, floors and walls and bring visitors the unexpected.
The ‘Clément Cogitore: Les Indes Galantes’ exhibition takes visitors on an analysis of ritual, memory and rituals of the sacred through an intersection between cinema, photography and installation. This piece is paired with a dramatic Baroque soundtrack to enjoy the whole experience.
The Josyln’s reimagined gardens sit on a Sandhills-inspired landscape with the ability to transform every season into an enchanted realm.
