Embracing Mental Wellness: Redefining the Gap Summit Returns to Educate, Inform and Entertain.

By Xitlally Velasco

The second annual Redefining the Gap (RTG) Summit will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Metropolitan Community College Swanson Conference Center Institute for Culinary Arts.

Dealing with mental illness often brings feelings of shame, isolation, and the challenge of articulating one's experiences. RTG aims to change that narrative. This year, their summit will spotlight leadership, health, wellness, and wholeness. RTG is dedicated to creating a safe and judgment-free space for meaningful conversations. The free summit will foster dialogue about individual wholeness through various discussions and sessions with community members.

This event is open to people ages eight and up in Omaha and the larger communities. Registration guarantees access to selected sessions, which will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the summit. There will be over 23 breakout sessions, 32 vendors, free breakfast and lunch, free face painting, balloon making, henna, caricatures, tattoo airbrushing, a chess tournament, a spade tournament, a UNO tournament and a free concert.

This year, RTG will also inaugurate its Teen Summit, where teens ages 13 to 18 can attend a special guest two-hour breakout session with parental consent. The session will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the MCC Swanson Conference Center.

Join RTG in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and wellness discussions.

Sessions and speakers will not diagnose, speculate, or provide treatment to attendees.
