The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation Announces Its 14th Annual Golf Tournament
ON OUR BLOCK: A running feature of inspiring events, people and stories.
The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation will host its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Tregaron Golf Course in Bellevue, Nebraska.
The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to lessen the financial strain on Latino students who excel academically, serve others, demonstrate good character and have personal ambition. With the rising cost of college being a significant challenge, the foundation recognizes their achievements by easing their financial burden.
In the spring of this year alone, the foundation awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to Latino students in the Greater Omaha area. This year, the foundation received nearly 170 applications and was awarded 15, resulting in $50,900 in award money. The annual golf tournament aims to raise $105,000 and double the number of scholarships given next year.
“Why do we do this?” says Tony Aguilera, Board President of the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation.
“Because we are grateful for our families, the city of Omaha, its wonderful people, and the positive relationships we’ve built. We believe in maintaining Omaha’s values by supporting, collaborating, and developing future leaders. Inspired by our ancestors, who taught us gratitude, mutual support, and the importance of helping others, we strive to provide opportunities for everyone to contribute to the community. Though we came from humble beginnings, our families gave us love, hope, and a belief in a brighter future. We believe everyone has a unique gift to offer, and we are committed to creating spaces for others to join us in making Omaha even better.”
Event registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the night will conclude with a steak dinner, an awards ceremony and prizes.
